Guides To Enlarge That Super Collection Of Favorite Cards

By Connor Sullivan

Over the years many people, including adults, have become fanatical about accumulating baseball cards. Perhaps the most collected are Topps baseball cards which seem to be the preferred ones to collect. This may be because they were the first producers of these photos and this is the ones that everyone was very familiar with when they were children.

But why has the trend for gathering this type of collectable become so popular? Well, it seems that people want to hold onto them and aim to make them into full sets or collections. Many will try to collect one particular team that they support or gather one full set of rookies in one team. Even basketball and hockey carry the same kind of fanaticism and these valuable little photos can be bartered, swapped at meetings, or auctioned off at far more than their face value.

This hobby is so popular with most people that they will scour the internet for years to find that one piece missing out of their collection. Some collections will be added to by family members who discover small hordes from their own childhood and eagerly pass them out to the up and coming generation for free. Other times, the collector may have to attend fairs or trade shows to hunt around until they come across the photo of that particular player. These shows can be a little tough on the newcomer since literally thousands of people are likely to show up and they will have far more contacts than the novice.

Christmas and birthdays are great occasions for the avid collector and many parents and relatives love the idea of knowing just what the collector wants for the gift. The collector, child or adult, will often talk a lot about that one piece, or several, that they have been looking for but which is very elusive. This gives the loved ones a great opportunity for a huge surprise gift on every suitable occasion.

Online stores are probably the best hunting grounds particularly for those who know just what they want. Shows and fairs are a little difficult for beginners and present buyers, so online searches are faster and easier to get something special.

For those wishing to barter, online trading sites are perhaps a good idea. Extras not needed by the collector can be swapped or traded for the elusive and highly prized piece for the collection. Sometimes, if the player that the collector is looking for is famous, then it will be hard to find. This means that swaps may not be as lucrative as first thought. Some collectors will give several items to collect that all elusive player which is of paramount importance to the collector.

This naturally means that the collector saves money and time by not having to move from one place to another. It also means that fans will be able to cultivate contacts between each other leading to social events etc. Keeping in touch also allows for more people to let others know what they want andhelp with the searches and take notes on what they have been looking for over the years. - 23309

Singapore To Keep Property Market Under Control Some Possible Measures

By Billy Chen

The business is so great that government has turned cautious on the sustenance of the current phenomena. With the local economy continues to work itself out of the shadow of financial downturn and H1N1 flu, the Singapore property market has been doing brisk business.Past two years has seen a flurry of buying activities and bullish developers have been assaulting our senses with their incessant advertisements on a daily basis, all hawking for our attention on their properties.

There is no doubt that the experience of the mid-nineties 'boom and bust cycle is still fresh in the administration' s mind. To move with our experience, that the government is ready all the stops to ensure it would not be repeated in the near future.

Among them are land supply decision, money supply tightening and tax policies. We are about to tell you how this individual measure works and how effective it can put the overheated market under control. There are actually a few tools at Singapore government's disposal to better handle any similar incident.

As a result, speculation of newly built property would cut down drastically.Land Supply Decision - Government is the biggest land owner in this island and when they do decide to cut down land supply for development, it will have a direct impact on the property market. Developers would have nowhere to turn to for the building of their luxury properties and correspondingly minimize the new launches.

Credit Tightening - A popular rumor is making rounds in the property sector that a comprehensive review of the credit market is underway. The maximum allowed loan quantum is 90 percent of property value. When government does decide to bring this down to 80 percent, or even lower, the whole market would be hit hard.

Government introduced capital gains tax at the height of nineties property boom but has since abolished it. Capital Gains Tax - This is a tax derived from the profit obtained from the sales of property. When this taxation is applied, it will treat profit as income and subject to the prevailing tax rate at either individual or corporate level. If this is brought back into the fray, it is expected demand would be slowed down significantly and will be effective to discourage speculation as profit would be reduced.

Property Tax - Another effective way to deal with an overheating market is to raise the property tax. Again based on reduced profit psychology, speculative activities could be significantly reduced due to the perceived small profit.

Double Stamp Duty - A legislative change may necessitate that both buyer and seller pay stamp duty. When it is implemented both ways, it is hoped that sellers/speculators would be more reluctant to freely sell/trade a piece of property.Currently stamp duty applies to buyer only.

These are just some of the measures that can give the government in its efforts to the real estate market under control. But it is still too early to say whether the existing ownership interest is real, and thus sustainable, or if another bubble in real decision-making. - 23309

Commodity Exchange Traded Funds

By Ahmad Hassam

Commodity investing may become the hottest investment in the first decades of the 21st century. Right now gold prices have broken the $1000 per ounce barrier for the first time in history. It is predicted that this upward trend in gold prices will continue for the foreseeable future. Oil prices have also started reaching $80 per barrel and it is expected that oil price will soon be above the $100 per barrel mark. It may eventually reach the $200 per barrel barrier. If you are interested in investing in commodities than you can invest in a commodity mutual fund! Many people are not aware that commodities as an asset class has a lot of potential especially in the 21st century. It is being predicted that the 21st century belongs to the commodities.

Just buy the shares of the commodity mutual fund and let its NAV appreciate before you can sell for a capital gain. This is the simplest way for you to get involved in investing in commodities as the mutual fund portfolio management will be done by a professional manager and you have to do nothing.

ETFs started off some three decades back but became highly popular as investment vehicles in such a short time. Now, you must have heard about the Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). ETFs are really hot investments these days.

Now the good thing about investing in ETFs is that they give you the diversification benefits of a mutual fund with very low fees something like 0.7% as compared to 2-4% of the mutual fund. Driven by the growing demand of commodities by the investors many financial institutions are now offering Commodity ETFs.

So unlike a mutual fund whose net asset value is calculated at the end of the day and the shares of mutual fund cannot be traded during the day, you can go both long or short on ETFs all the time. Something you cannot do with a mutual fund! ETFs have the added benefit of being able to trade like stocks giving you the powerful combination of diversification and liquidity.

This diversification plus liquidity benefit makes an ETF a better investment tool as compared to the mutual fund and the stocks. Now, you can find thousands of ETFs in the market on different market sectors, stock indexes, currencies, commodities and so on.

The first Commodity ETF in US was launched by Deutsche Bank in the start of 2006. The Deutsche Bank Commodity Index Tracking Fund is listed on AMEX and tracks the Deutsche Bank Liquid Commodity Index. This index is based on a basket of six commodities: light sweet crude oil, heating oil, gold, aluminum, corn and wheat.

This ETF invests directly in the commodity futures contract. Now one of the downsides of investing in this Commodity ETFs is that it can be fairly volatile as it is based on commodity futures contracts that get rolled monthly. Another downside to this Commodity ETF is that it is based on a basket of six commodities only. Now, every month a new ETF gets launched. There are a number of Commodity ETFs that track individual commodities like crude oil, gold and silver. Do your research on Commodity ETFs, you may find a good investment. - 23309

Knowing What Makes Up Good ETF Trading Strategies

By Patrick Deaton

Today, exchange traded funds or ETFs make for a great investment vehicle that hold out the possibility of a good income for those traitors willing to take the time to learn how to make exchange traded funds really work. Understanding good ETF trading strategies, though, is probably one of the first things to learn after gaining an understanding of the basics of what ETFs are.

These particular funds resemble mutual funds in some ways, especially in how they are set up. Additionally, ETFs usually restrict membership -- if you want to call it that -- to what ETFs refer to as "authorized participants." This usually means institutional investors who have the ability to buy and sell huge blocks of assets. Small investors can participate through ETF trading systems, though.

Imagine corporate stocks and how they are traded or bought and sold and you will have a good idea of how exchange traded funds are also moved through the markets. Almost every exchange traded fund establishes its operations so that it can track one or several of the major market indexes. For example, many track the S&P 500. This makes it easier to follow trends and set up trading strategies.

There are more strategies out there that can probably be counted, though they usually fall into a couple of major categories; fundamental and technical. For those with the savvy, or patience, to sit down and learn technical strategies, the rewards can be quite lucrative. Most traders using technical indices believe they can discern patterns or shapes in a stock chart, basically.

Being able to discern these patterns or shapes in a stock chart (basically up-and-down movements of the stock over a defined period of time) can give a signal of the possibility of profitable trading opportunities which might exist. Many traders claim that they can make consistent profits from trading using technical analysis in this manner.

One of the most common technical trading strategies used by many traders is what is called a "moving average cross." Moving average crosses try to match up a short-term evolution in the price of the stock and superimpose that over a long-term trend in that same stock or market. By tracking a short-term up-and-down movement over-- to 25 days, it may be possible to establish a moving average line.

Once this line is established, it can be superimposed over the short term evolution analysis in order to determine which way the stock price in the ETF will go through the moving average line after it is crossed. The bottom, or long-term trend analysis usually consists of looking at a 50-day moving average. This longer timeline tends to smooth or dampen out those short-term trends.

In this way, ETF trading strategies involving the long-term trend can be used as what industry experts call a "moving support line." A typical strategy by most traders in this instance would be to purchase a stock or an asset in the ETF when it is in the beginning of an uptrend or if the stock price goes back up after it either touches or barely penetrates the 50-day moving average. One could short the stock also. - 23309

Are Apartments Worthwhile Investments?

By Jeff Royle

Houses as investments make pretty good financial sense over the long term (houses tend to double in price every 8 to 10 years) but what about Apartments?

Firstly you have to ask yourself, what am I investing for? Is it long term capital growth or short term income from rent? Generally speaking older people invest for short term income rather than long term growth, fotr obvious reasons!

Apartments typically aren't decent capital growth investments, this is because property prices often reflect the cost of land and thus this land cost is not reflected in the cost of the unit itself. Developers are pulling out all sorts of ways to sell apartments as well as 'rent guarantees'. Whilst this may sound good, think about what happens after the rent promise runs out. Also will the company offering the guarantee still be in business to pay out? Most Real Estate agents know that these guarantees are simple marketing ploys and tend to reflect the limitations in the Apartment market.

Also bear in mind that mortgage financing for Apartments is tricky with most Banks not going over 60 or 65%. That might be OK for you, but what about your potential buyer a few years from now?

Aside from not owning the property, another factor is the potential for oversupply. Developers can effortlessly put up a block of new Apartments, quickly and therefore further diluting the potential market. The old rule of supply and demand kicks in and as an individual you have very little control.

The fact above together with high Body Corp fee's and maintenance issues means Apartment buyers need to carefully consider before making the move. In terms of rental return, around 7% warrants a house purchase but near 10% is required for Apartments - 23309
